Hassan Lahrech

 

Hassan's strong focus on clients' needs, ideas, high attention to details, makes him an excellent choice for projects where sound, challenge and music play an important role.

Born in Brussels, Belgium. After studying at the "Jazz Studio Music School" Antwerp, he spent 10 years performing and recording as a drummer.

In 1985, he performed on an album produced by Nigel Gray, producer of legendary band "The Police" in Surrey Sound Studio, UK.

In 1994, he started working for Video Head Quarter Singapore, as in house composer and audio engineer. He quickly developed his craft and passion for Sound Design and moved on to work for Song Zu Singapore.

Interested in long form, he joined Asia Broadcast Center in 1996, his clientele included The Discovery Channel, Sony Entertainment Televison and JET TV.

Recording, adapting and remixing over 250 documentaries, TV series in Mandarin and Hindi, made him understand the most challenging and technical issues, as well as the entire production chain of broadcast material.

In 1998, he moved back to Brussels, where he was quickly in high demand as a freelance sound designer - audio engineer to work on major European and international advertising campaigns.

Hassan worked very closely, on many TVC's with Belgian director Xavier Mairesse, for whom he created the entire soundtrack for the road safety campaign "Heaven Can Wait",

award winner in 2002 Cannes Festival and over 400.000 viewings on Youtube.

He worked as a sound editor on two feature films for Carousel Pictures, USA, producers of "The Point Men", starring Christopher Lambert

and "New World Disorder", starring Rutger Hauer, this immersed him into the world of movie making.

Hassan composed the music for "Résonance Mali", a 52 mins documentary, narrated by Pierre Arditi.

In 2004, he returned to Song Zu Singapore as a senior sound designer to work on local, regional and global advertising campaigns.

His work was awarded a Bronze for "Best Sound Track and Music" under Craft in Television and Cinema category for "The Ring", at the Singapore Creative Circle Award 2005.

In 2008, Hassan ventured to create his own company "The Sound Cell". The Sound Cell already completed long form projects for the National Geographic Channel, The Discovery Channel and Award winning projects for the BBC Worldwide Channel.

Hassan's approach to sound design and music is uniquely different from the usual, always pushing the boundaries of creativity further and faster.

Since July 2009 he has mixed many short films for the New York University Tisch School of The Art Asia, pursuing high interest in film mixing.
